This common barberry, Zereshk (dried barberries), come from Iran. This strikingly beautiful, ruby-colored fruit has a wide range of versatility. One can add this fruit into their smoothies, drink, and use it for garnishing dishes, etc. Their tart flavor adds an excellent taste to rice and poultry dishes and are commonly used as a currant in rice pilaf in Iran. Rich in Vitamin C and pectin, they are also a traditional ingredient for jam.
The barberry has an incredible effect on health. It has high antioxidant properties and inhibits the growth of bacteria, fights infection, prevents and treats diabetes, improves heart health, combats metabolic syndrome, cleanse the liver and gallbladder.
