Sassafras, ground

Sassafras is the powdered leaves of the sassafras tree. When ground, they smell somewhat like juicy fruit gum. It can also acts as a thickener when added to liquid. Commonly used in Creole and Cajun cooking. Sassafras is the primary taste in root beer and is delicious with mint and agave, or for a soda or syrup.
